A 14-year-old boy was run over by a speeding tractor-trailer near the Fatahpur area here yesterday. The incident occurred when the victim along with her mother was going for some work on a bicycle.
The driver of the tractor-trailer fled form the scene leaving the vehicle behind. He was identified as Lakhbir Singh of the Kot Khalsa area. The driver was booked by the police on the charge of rash driving leading to death of the boy.
Paramjit Kaur, mother of the victim, stated to the police that they were returning from the Fatahpur side where she had gone for some work. She said her son Jagdeep Singh was pedaling the cycle and she was sitting pillion. She alleged that when they crossed Ganda Nallah and entered the city, a Swaraj tractor-trailer, bearing registration number PB02BV 4481, rammed into their cycle. The driver was playing songs at high decibel and did not use horn. She said her son Jagdeep Singh fell before the tractor-trailer, which ran over by him thus killing him on the spot. The driver fled form the spot immediately after the accident.
The police authorities said a case under Sections 304-A and 279 of the IPC was registered against Lakhbir Singh, who was evading arrest since the road mishap. Officials said efforts were on to arrest the accused.
