In a significant development, the anticipatory bail petition filed by former Principal and former registrar of Khalsa College has been rejected by the Sessions Court here today.
The College Principal, Dr Mahal Singh, and registrar, Dr Davinder Singh, were booked for abetment to suicide on a complaint filed by father of a deceased student, who had committed suicide on April 26.
The duo has been absconding from the day of incident. Meanwhile, the Khalsa College authorities have appointed new Principal and registrar in their place.
Sandeep Gorsi, counsel for the victim’s family said, “The court has cancelled anticipatory bail petition filed by the accused after a long argument.”
The defence counsel Gorsi claimed that the college Principal and registrar tempered the record after suicide of the student. They tried to amend rules for attendance.
It is worth mentioning here that Harpreet Singh (22), a student of the Khalsa College, hailing from Bathinda, had committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on April 26. The incident led to an agitation by students, who blocked the GT road and continued the protest for several days.
The police had registered a case against Dr Mahal Singh and Dr Davinder Singh for abetment to suicide following the statement of Yadwinder Singh, father of the deceased, at the Containment Police station on April 27.
The police got warrants from duty magistrate to arrest the accused Principal and registrar. No arrests have been made so far.
