The rural police booked five persons of a family for the murder of a 75-year-old man at Nausehra Kalan village yesterday night.
The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Lalla, Kala Singh, Bunty, Tarsem Singh and Vishal Singh, residents of Nausehra Kalan.
In his complaint at the Kambo police station, the complainant, Wariam Singh, son-in-law of the victim, stated that he had been living at the house of his in-laws for several years.
The accused used to tease his son, Rahul. Yesterday, the accused, intercepted Rahul when he was returning from the fields. They allegedly abused Rahul.
Wariam Singh stated that Rahul came home and narrated the story. In the late evening, he along with his father-in-law, Savinder Singh (75), and brother-in-law Kashmir Singh went to the house of the accused to complain about their behaviour to their parents.
“We asked them why did they abuse and threaten Rahul. Gurpreet Singh alias Lalla instigated others by saying that they should teach them teach a lesson about how to enter someone’s house to complain. All the other accused caught hold of us and started thrashing us. Meanwhile, they also manhandled my father-in-law. He fell down and died on the spot,” stated Wariam Singh, adding that “when they observed that Savinder Singh had died during the clash, they fled from the scene.”
Balwinder Singh, investigating officer at the Kambo police station, said, “On the complaint of the deceased’s son-in-law, we have registered a case under Sections 302, 341,148,149 of the IPC against the accused. All the accused are missing after the incident. We are raiding their probable hideouts to arrest them.”
