The Health Department has issued challans to 72 persons in the city over detection of mosquito larva in houses as well as commercial establishments.
Health officials said a fine of up to Rs 500 could be imposed on the owners of the houses or establishments if larva was detected. As patients with swine flu symptoms are being reported at city hospitals, the administration has already constituted teams, accompanied by naib tehsildars or tehsildars, to speed up the drive.
District Epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said, “Dengue and malaria are easily preventable and residents needed to take precautions. Water shouldn’t be allowed to stagnate in and around houses. Water in air coolers should be changed every week. All junk materials lying in the open that can hold rain water should be removed,” said the epidemiologist.
He said more cases of detection of mosquito larva had been reported from urban areas in comparison with rural areas.
