Four minor girls were allegedly kidnapped from the holy city in the past several days on the pretext of marriage. The police have booked four persons, including a woman, in these cases.
The Chhehatra police have booked Gopi, a resident of Palasour in Tarn Taran, and Ajju, wife of Harpal Singh, of Chheharta after a-16-year-old girl went missing. The mother of the victim told the police that her brother Harpal Singh and his wife Ajju had taken the victim with them for summer vacations around two weeks ago.
She said yesterday, when she had gone to bring her daughter back, Ajju told that Gopi took her away after luring her for marriage.
Following the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case under Section 363 (kidnapping), 366-A (Procuration of minor girl) and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offence Act (POCSO).
Similarly, two girls went missing from the area that comes under the Sadar police station. The father of a missing girl told the police that on May 29, his daughter had gone to the market for buying some household items, but did not return.
The father said he and his family searched for her but in vain. He suspected that some unknown persons had kidnapped her on the pretext of marriage. In another incident, the police booked Nirmal Singh alias Pamma of Kolian village in Kapurthala for abducting a 15-year-old girl. The victim, who is a matriculation student, was located on the Majitha road.
Her father stated that on May 31, she had gone to school but did not come back. Later, he came to know that the accused had lured her for marriage. She also took away a gold chain, earrings and some other gold ornaments before fleeing from the house. The Sadar police have registered separate cases in both instances.
Meanwhile, in another incident the police booked Ram Parsad alias Ramu of Suraj Avenue located on the Fatehgarh Churian road. He originally hailed from Chokapur in UP. He allegedly kidnapped a 13-year old girl. Her mother said the victim had gone to buy milk on June 3 and did not return. The police have registered a case. — TNS
