In a revealing incident about the law and order situation in the city, three drunken youths molested a woman and her friend who were returning home late last evening. They pursued them to their home and thrashed them besides indulging in vandalism.
The police have arrested the three miscreants and lodged an FIR against them. They were identified as Chetandeep Singh of Rani Ka Bagh, Ayush Bhatial of Lakshami Avenue and Jaitej Singh Kataria of Medical Enclave.
The husband of the victim, in his complaint, stated to the police that his wife along with her friend was returning from a shrine. As they entered the Ranjit Avenue area from the Loharaka road side, the accused, who were in an SUV, started following their car. They started making obscene gestures and passed objectionable remarks.
Shivdarshan Singh, SHO, Civil Lines police, said the victims informed him about this and told him the vehicle number who later turned out to be his known persons. He said the victim’s husband called the accused and asked them to stop this while telling them that the woman was his wife. Heated words were exchanged when the accused, who were heavily drunk, did not relent and followed them till her home.
According to the complainant, the accused barged into their house and entered into a brawl with them. They also vandalised his car parked outside. The family informed the Civil Lines police which reached the spot. However, the accused had fled the scene by that time. The police teams chased the accused and arrested them.
A case under Sections 452, 354, 354-A, 354-D, 427, 506 and 34, IPC, has been registered against them. “Such instances are intolerable and therefore stern action has been taken against them,” said Shivdarshan Singh.
