Aiming at improving its services to compete with courier firms, the Department of Posts has issued android phones to postmen. The system will keep a track of postmen as well as the proper delivery report. Around 176 postmen have been given mobile phones, including postmasters from Tarn Taran.
Under the system, the delivery data will be uploaded through mobile as soon as the parcel is delivered. The system also ensures digital signature. With this, the department wants to compete with various e-commerce websites and courier services.
Makhan Singh, Senior Superintendent, Post Office, Amritsar division, said, “Our 176 postmen have been given mobiles. There is a set data limit. It is a corporate number. The department is maintaining a proper record of the same. The accountability of employees will increase as their performance can be tracked.”
