150th child at Pangoora

Amritsar: Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha handed over a girl child, 150th in count, to the Pangoora of the Red Cross Society on Tuesday. The girl was found abandoned at the Pangoora. Sangha said the unique initiative started by the Red Cross Society had saved many lives. Pangoora has till date received 150 children, of which 129 are girls. TNS

PSPCL employee assaulted

A Powercom employee was attacked by a villager when he snapped his illegal power connection in Dhade village on May 15. The case was registered yesterday. The accused, identified as Jugnu, was yet to be arrested. On the complaint of Gurmeet Singh, a lineman posted with the PSPCL in Kathunangal subdivision, the police have registered a case under Sections 353, 186 and 332, IPC, against Jugnu. He said, he along with his assistant lineman, had gone to repair an electrical fault in Dhade village. On the way, he found that the accused had got a kundi connection. He said he snapped it, so Jugnu attacked him with a brick, leaving him injured. Tarlok Singh, investigating officer, said the accused was yet be arrested. Investigation into the case is on, he added. IDBI bank staff stir for pay hike
Employees of IDBI Bank held a strike demanding hike in their wages on Tuesday. They said other banks had revised the pay of their employees but the IDBI hadn’t for the past four years. A senior official said employees of the bank across the country were on strike. TNS

Digital ‘karah parshad’ window

SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar inaugurate a computerised counter of ‘karah parshad’ at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib in Thatta village on Tuesday. SGPC general secretary Amarjit Singh Chawla said Rs 5 lakh were spent on the facility. Earlier, visitors were given slips for karah parshad. CCTV cameras have also been installed at the gurdwara.
