In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old boy was found dead at discarded urinals in the Raminder Singh Borlaria Memorial Park here today. He was strangled to death by unknown persons last night.
The Division C police station has circulated pictures of the boy and registered a murder case in this connection.
The incident came to light when children playing in the park informed a person who was out on a morning walk. He further informed the police which reached the spot and took the body into their custody.
According to the police, the boy was strangled with a blue cloth used as a head gear (parna). The deceased was wearing a black t-shirt and a grey trouser. Police officials said they circulated the pictures to all police stations and were examining whether any missing report was filed with the police yesterday.
Station House Officer (SHO) Amrik Singh said that a case under Section 302 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against unknown persons on the statement of a local resident, Hem Raj, who had informed the police. He said investigations were on to identify the deceased and the perpetrators of the crime. As the body was half naked, the police suspected that the deceased might have been subjected to unnatural sex.
“His body has been kept in the mortuary for 72 hours for identification. A medical board would be constituted for the postmortem examination of the deceased, which would ascertain whether he was subjected to unnatural sex or not,” the SHO said.
